Today’s blog is from Celebrity Makeup Artist Virginia Linzee and Celebrity Stylist Lo VonRumpf. Mary Kay recently partnered with them for the latest looks in People StyleWatch and People en Español now on stands. This month’s look is “Earthy Glow” as advertised in the September issue of People StyleWatch magazine (page 232) and we sat down with Virginia and Lo to find out more about how they created this look.

What was your inspiration for the Earthy Glow look?

LVR: I have always loved styling with earth tones, but definitely felt inspired after spending time in Nashville with my clients. In Los Angeles, it’s pretty much always sunny, but as I watched the season change in Nashville, I felt inspired. The foliage, trees changing colors made me naturally gravitate toward the earth tones when styling. I had just wrapped seeing all the shows at NYC fashion week and noticed plenty of safari inspired prints, textures, and rich colors. I decided to make earth tones my focus because they are most flattering and transitional to the season.

VL: I was thinking about the transition from summer to fall and about a well-traveled, wise woman. This woman has really lived so she doesn’t feel the need to be flashy, but is very graceful, beautiful, and natural. She probably still has her tan from summer, but will be wearing very fashionable earth tones for fall.

How did you decide on the specific Mary Kay products for this look?

VL: I wanted anyone wearing this look to like she just got back from a great vacation. I also wanted her to look natural, so great skin is key. I wanted it to be effortless, and think the woman who wears this look is very comfortable with herself, and she should be – she’s gorgeous!

What’s the best way to achieve this look?

VL: Apply the Mary Kay® Mineral Bronzing Powder in Light to Medium to use all over, and the Medium to Dark shade to contour. Be sure to use good powder, cheek and contour brushes to blend, blend, blend! Don’t forget to bronze the neck, shoulders and décolletage. I chose Mary Kay® Mineral Eye Colors in Honey Spice to brighten the eyes and Driftwood to add dimension, but still look very natural. Add sparkle to the inner corners of eyes with Mary Kay At PlayTM Eye Crayon in Gold Mine. To keep the lips looking soft, feminine, and natural I used True Dimensions® Lipstick in Tangerine Pop.

LVR: This look is great to have in your closet because it feels effortless and works in every season. Earth tones are chic all year round. There are a few pieces that you can have in your wardrobe that will serve as the strong basics to build the rest of your closet on. A thick knit sweater or cardigan, a great pair of camel chino style pants, trench coat and some nude pumps are all staples I recommend having in all of my client’s closets. Once you have your key earth tone pieces, it’s fun to add in bold colors as the season changes.

What are the best places to wear this look?

LVR: Earth Tones have a daytime casual feel to them so I love styling this look for that perfect weekender outfit.  Running errands, taking a weekend trip or just meeting up for lunch with friends in this look definitely is stylish and on trend. Its neutrals, warm tones that feels so effortless and chic at the same time. It’s easy to transition them into a more formal setting.  I also like this look in a business environment because it’s flattering for the skin tone and adds warmth to an office setting.
